Pioneer Museum Receives Cultural Trust Grant

July 25, 2010

The Oregon Cultural Trust has announced that the Tillamook County Pioneer Museum has been chosen as the recipient of a $10,000 grant for the cultural assessment of Kilchis Point, a 200-acre site of cultural, historical and environmental significance. The goal of the Museum’s project is to develop interpretive trails that will highlight Tillamook Indians and white settlement heritage as well as the rich environmental resources at the site.

The OCT granted $1.47 million for the fiscal year 2010-2011 to 57 awardees in 19 communities and 15 counties. Gary Albright, Pioneer Museum Director, said, “The highly competitive grant makes a striking difference to  the Pioneer Museum’s intentions to tell the story at Kilchis Point. We are very pleased to be considered as a partner with the OCT.” The cultural assessment will begin August 9, 2010.
Trust Manager Kimberly Howard noted, “Grant proposals were strong, the grant review process was rigorous, and the projects selected for funding reflect significant cultural projects…across the state.”  She also explained that the grant to the museum is made possible by people who donate to the Oregon Cultural Trust.
